In October, as part of Connell Brothers' continued support for the Salford Children’s Holiday Camp, a special prize was donated towards the Halloween charity fundraising Ball that took place at Vermillion venue in Manchester.

Connell Brothers Ltd put forward the opportunity to spend a day at one of our live sites where the lucky winner would get the chance to get behind the scenes and see a demolition site in action as well as drive one of our large diggers! All supervised by Connell Brothers’ trained Staff, with health and safety of paramount importance.

Salford Children's Holiday Camp was established in Prestatyn, North Wales in 1926. Since then it has provided a holiday home for over 80,00 Salford Children from all walks of life.

Kenny Waste Management Services won the prize at Halloween Ball and joined a collaboration with the Connell Brothers team to support the Salford Foundation. In December, the Salford Foundation brought participants from their ‘Find My Future’ programme, with CBL offering demolition insights and expertise at the site in Walkden, and Kenny Waste Management organising the day providing PPE.

Having closed in 2014, St George’s school had been used by BBC Northwest as a film set for various productions, but in October 2020 the BBC relocated, making the building a target for anti-social behaviour activities. The structure had fallen into disrepair and the task to carry out the demolition and asbestos removal was awarded to Connell Brothers Ltd.

The participants also had the opportunity to learn more about the latest technology in demolition plant, the heavy machinery used on site to pick apart the structures. In recent years there has been a decline in the number of new entrants into the demolition industry, but experiences like this can help attract and inspire the next generation of demolition operatives.

Jim Connell, Co-Founder and Company Director at Connell Brothers Ltd, said:

“Sharing our industry expertise is always a positive experience and we are very happy to have helped with Salford Foundation’s fantastic program. The future of the industry relies on young people getting involved and learning about the skills and processes that go into demolition. It’s important to foster aspiration and a sense of perspective early on in their careers.”

As well the opportunity to learn from industry experts, the Connell Brothers team also offered participants gift cards as part of the experience.
