Transforming Urban Spaces: Connell Brothers Delivers Green Social Value at Blanchard Garden
As part of our ongoing commitment to generating tangible social value and supporting local communities, Connell Brothers Ltd is proud to deliver key environmental enhancement works at Blanchard Garden in Manchester.
Working in partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University, this project highlights how our specialist site clearance and ground prep capabilities can transform unused urban footprints into vibrant, accessible green spaces for the local community.
Giving Back Through Social Value
Beyond our core major structural and demolition works across Greater Manchester, Connell Brothers works closely with educational partners and local authorities to give back. The redevelopment of Blanchard Garden, a 250 triangular pocket green space situated at the junction of St Mary’s Street, Blanchard Street, and Rook Street, is a prime example of social value in action.
Through careful ground intervention and landscape restructuring, our on-site team is helping convert concrete and hardstanding areas into an inviting, nature-friendly space.

What the Works Entail
The Blanchard Garden rejuvenation project involves removing existing asphalt to restore topsoil for future planting, installing steel and concrete edging, creating a bark chip walking path, and protecting mature trees throughout the site.
Building Greener Communities Together
Projects like Blanchard Garden demonstrate how contractor expertise and academic partnerships can collaborate to create lasting community benefits. By converting hard surfaces back into soil and green pathways, we are proud to play a hands-on role in improving biodiversity, local aesthetics, and public wellbeing in Manchester.
