Contract Award — Mossley Hill Hospital, Liverpool

Connell Brothers Ltd was awarded the multi-million pound Asbestos Removal and Demolition works contract of Mossley Hill Hospital in Liverpool. Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust has employed CBL as Principal Contractor to clear the site to pave the way for a future state-of-the-art mental health facility. Soft strip and Asbestos Removal works are well underway at the site, with demolition works to reach completion in December of this year.

A World’s First — Pre-stressed post-tensioned building demolition

It is 25 years since the IRA planted the biggest bomb on the UK mainland since World War Two targeting shoppers on 15 June 1996.

The explosion ripped the heart out of the city centre but despite extensive damage, and a remarkable evacuation, no one was killed. 200 people were injured and some were left traumatised by the attack.

Connell Brothers Demolition at St James’ Hospital signals start of work on £27m pathology lab — Yorkshire Evening Post article

Preparation of the site at St James Hospital continues and it is expected that construction will start later this year, with a completion date set for 2023.

It will serve hospitals across Leeds, West Yorkshire and Harrogate and will allow the Trust to bring many of its pathology services together into a purpose-built laboratory for fast, accurate, routine and specialist testing.
